Overview
Direct intervention involves speaking up in the moment to challenge the harassment. It requires calm, respectful language and a clear message that the behavior is not acceptable. If you feel unsafe, skip direct confrontation and use an indirect or seek help instead.
Example dialogue that is direct but respectful: It is not acceptable to speak to colleagues or customers in that manner. Please stop this behavior now. If it continues, I will report it. Keep your tone calm and concise.
Safety and boundaries: If the situation becomes aggressive, prioritize leaving the area and seeking assistance from a supervisor or security. Direct intervention is strongest when you can do so safely and clearly.
Post intervention steps: Check on the target, document the incident, and report through the established channels. Record what was said, who was involved, when it occurred, and any witnesses to support follow up.
