Protection Against Retaliation and Safety for Intersecting Identities
This lesson covers protections against retaliation, safety planning, and ongoing support for reporters and targeted individuals across identities.

Protection Against Retaliation

Retaliation against a reporter or witnesses is strictly prohibited. Policies extend protection across identities, including LGBTQ+ staff, people with disabilities, and caregivers. If retaliation occurs, report it through the same confidential channels and seek immediate assistance.

Safety planning is a core part of the response. Assess risk, provide accommodations, adjust duties or schedules, and consider temporary changes to ensure safety while investigations proceed.

Support resources should be available, such as employee assistance programs, affinity networks, and caregiver support groups. Leadership should model inclusive behavior and respond promptly to concerns.

Maintain ongoing communication with reporters about actions taken, while preserving privacy. Monitor for retaliation and evaluate the effectiveness of safety measures over time.
