Evidence Collection and Interview Planning

Outline the types of evidence: documents, emails, messages, audio or video recordings, screenshots. Plan interviews with clear objectives, sequence, and questions. Obtain consent for recording where required. Preserve chain of custody by labeling originals, documenting transfers, and securing storage of evidence.

Interviews should be conducted by trained investigators in private settings. Use open ended questions to let respondents describe events in their own words. Avoid leading questions, be mindful of bias, and take structured notes or recordings with consent.

Documentation and privacy: maintain a case file with time stamped entries, attach evidence with references, and ensure data access is limited to authorized personnel. Redact sensitive information when appropriate.

Safety and fairness: protect reporters and witnesses from retaliation, and escalate concerns to appropriate channels as needed.
