Overview
Indirect interventions involve using the environment or third parties to support the target and prevent escalation. This may include enlisting a supervisor, moving to a private area, or changing the topic to defuse tension.
Redirect the interaction away from aggression by offering the target a different assistance path, such as stepping in to help with a task or addressing the customer in a different way while the situation is managed.
Documentation and reporting: Even when you intervene indirectly, keep records of what happened and report to the appropriate channels. Documentation helps accountability and future prevention.
When to escalate: If the harassment persists, escalates, or involves threats, escalate to a formal complaint or investigation according to policy. Preserve safety and confidentiality at all times.
