Signals and Safe Interventions in Real-Time Interactions
This lesson covers recognizing signals during real-time interactions and how to respond safely, de-escalate where possible, document incidents, and support targets.
Recognizing Real Time Signals
Watch for escalating language, persistent disrespect, intimidation, or fear in a target. Customer behavior or staff responses can indicate harassment is occurring or about to occur during service interactions.
Immediate Safe Intervention
- Use a calm voice and set clear boundaries
- Engage another team member or supervisor for support
- Document what happened and when
- Prioritize safety of targets and bystanders
Supporting the Target
Check on the target’s well being, offer assistance, and guide them to appropriate reporting channels. Respect choices about how to proceed and provide resources.
Documentation and Escalation
Record details, collect evidence, preserve timestamps, and escalate to the appropriate team. Timely reporting aids investigations and prevents recurrence.
